Delta's Brood

As you know, Delta went broody, and we put some neighbor eggs under her (see last post).  Well, it's been the 21 days and here they are!

It's that time of year.  The banana tree had a baby, and I transplanted it to a new pot (isn't it cute?).  It's the small one on the bottom.  It's mother is now in a bigger red pot-oh happy day!

So, the time of the chicken's babies was upon us as well.  The guineas we all about and ON the coop, as usual (one is now missing.  We're hoping it's a hen that has also gone broody...somewhere)
Oh Miss Delta...how are you this morning?  We opened her up...and...
One cute little chick.  That's all we needed or wanted and are very happy.
Boy and Knight are now kept in the house when the chickens are let loose so as to keep the chicks alive.  Well, these two are happy at least :).
So, we go back and check later that day.  One chick.
 Two chicks.
Three chicks (the third's beak is to the left of the middle one)
 FOUR!
Mommy and chicks are eating now and appear healthy!  She's pushed the broken shells out as well so whew!  Another normal event!

Little black hen

We have a little black hen....OK...she's a BIG black hen.  Resembles a Jersey Giant.  Now, we got rid of our last rooster because he was so mean and attacked Marcus real bad.  Marcus really enjoyed supper that night...hee hee hee...

So, naturally, now that the rooster is out of her system, she goes broody...sigh...

While all the other girls are perfectly happy peeking
 And walking around,
Delta is so broody, she won't get up, even when the other hens try to lay next to here.  Hey Goldy-there's like, 20 other nest boxes...do you need a map?
And in case you couldn't tell from the above picture, broody hens are NOT happy hens.  Long story short, we decided to go beg from our neighbor Ray for some fertile eggs.
 Which we got.
We then walked the 3/4 mile back home with said eggs.

Armed ourselves with anti-pecking armor (two socks)
And made an unhappy hen VERY angry as I took the "dead" eggs out, and put the good eggs in.
That is a very mad hen.

Anyway, she just started last night, so here's hoping we have chicks in 21 days!  I'll let you know the outcome.
